Q.What do you look for in a Smarter team member?
A.Here at Smarter Business, we are looking for people who are full of positive energy, who share in our beliefs and who are willing to put in the hard yards. If you are motivated, willing to learn, have excellent people skills and work well in a team, then we want you.
Q.How do I apply for a vacancy?
A.All applications should be submitted electronically. Search and apply for a suitable position on our Vacancies page. Your application and CV should summarise your education, work experience and relevant accomplishments, and include at least three references.
Q.How do I know I’m the right fit for the position I’m interested in?
A.Every position listed on our site will include a list of job requirements. Please have a careful read through these and only apply if you are a suitable candidate. On the whole, we look for people with excellent listening and communication skills, good negotiation and people skills, time management, organisational and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to meet deadlines and perform effectively under pressure.
Q.How do I find the requirements for a career opportunity I am interested in?
A.It’s easy; go to our Vacancies page, search for the position you’re interested in, then have a read through the listed requirements (skills, experience and qualifications) to see if you’re the right fit. If you are, then the next step is to apply.
Q.How can I prepare for my interview?
A.Smarter Business is a pretty great place to work. Our team is welcoming and supportive, the energy is electric and the opportunities for growth are endless! The vibe is simply awesome.
Q.How long will the recruitment process take from application to decision making time?
A.We often receive high volumes of applications, and unfortunately can’t interview everyone. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Once interviewed and should you be successful/unsuccessful, we will be in touch with you after 2-5 working days to complete our recruitment process.
Q.What is the office culture like?

Q.How do employees of Smarter Business need to dress?
A.At Smarter Business, we dress for success. Smart-casual is the dress code – no flip-flops/ T-shirts or ripped jeans of course.
Q.What are the working hours?
A.You’ll be pleased to know we don’t work weekends! Your working hours will depend on which team you are a part of. Some of our staff work the usual South African hours (08:00am – 4:30pm), while others work UK hours which are 09:00am – 18:00pm for 6 months of the year, and for the other 6 months of the year the hours are 10:00am – 19:00pm (Due to Daylight Saving in the UK). For Public Holidays, we work some South African Public Holidays which these then get swapped with the UK Public Holidays.
Q.Will I have a probation period when I start?
A.All new employees start off with an invitation to an intensive and exciting 10-day training programme, where full attendance is required. Should you pass training successfully and be signed off by your manager, you’ll then be offered a contract of employment, with a 3-month probation period. Before your probation period comes to an end, an assessment will be done to see if they would like to make you permanent.
Q.What benefits do you offer your staff?
A.We offer a Group Life Cover and Funeral Cover after your 3-month probation period and after one year of service, we offer a Retirement Annuity Contribution.
Q.Do you offer any training and development opportunities to staff?
A.We most certainly do! We are committed to individual development and professional advancement. We have an initiative called Smarter People and as part of Smarter People we would like to offer all our staff a Development and Training programme where we can enhance our employee’s skillset which can allow them to grow successfully within Smarter Business. We try to retain our staff as much as we can, therefore it’s a huge investment from both Smarter Business and you, which will only benefit both Smarter Business and Smarter People. This is not just a job, it’s a career!
